What is Munajat?

Munajat (مناجات) is derived from the Arabic word "najwa" (نجوی), meaning "private conversation" or "whispered prayer." It represents the most intimate form of communication between a believer and Allah — a heartfelt dialogue that transcends the formal structure of obligatory prayers.

Unlike the ritualistic aspects of Salah (daily prayers), Munajat is a spontaneous outpouring of the soul. It embodies complete submission, expressing love, gratitude, repentance, hope, and the yearning for divine closeness. Through Munajat, believers strip away all pretenses and stand vulnerable before their Creator.

The tradition of Munajat is enriched by the profound supplications of the Prophet Muhammad (PBUH), Imam Ali (AS), and the Ahlul Bayt. The most celebrated collection is the Fifteen Whispered Prayers (Munajat Khamsa Ashar) attributed to Imam Ali (AS), which are traditionally recited during the blessed month of Ramadan.
